چکیده

We show that the integrated Lyapunov exponents of C volume preserving diffeomorphisms are simultaneously continuous at a given diffeomorphism only if the corresponding Oseledets splitting is trivial (all Lyapunov exponents equal to zero) or else dominated (uniform hyperbolicity in the projective bundle) almost everywhere. We deduce a sharp dichotomy for generic volume preserving diffeomorphisms on any compact manifold: almost every orbit either is projectively hyperbolic or has all Lyapunov exponents equal to zero. Similarly, for a residual subset of all C symplectic diffeomorphisms on any compact manifold, either the diffeomorphism is Anosov or almost every point has zero as a Lyapunov exponent, with multiplicity at least 2. Finally, given any closed group G ⊂ GL(d) that acts transitively on the projective space, for a residual subset of all continuous G-valued cocycles over any measure preserving homeomorphism of a compact space, the Oseledets splitting is either dominated or trivial.

Generic Dynamics of 4-dimensional C Hamiltonian Systems

We study the dynamical behaviour of Hamiltonian flows defined on 4-dimensional compact symplectic manifolds. We find the existence of a C-residual set of Hamiltonians for which every regular energy surface is either Anosov or it is in the closure of energy surfaces with zero Lyapunov exponents a.e. This is in the spirit of the Bochi-Mañé dichotomy for area-preserving diffeomorphisms on compact ...

Extremal Lyapunov Exponents: an Invariance Principle and Applications

We propose a new approach to analyzing dynamical systems that combine hyperbolic and non-hyperbolic (“center”) behavior, e.g. partially hyperbolic diffeomorphisms. A number of applications illustrate its power. We find that any ergodic automorphism of the 4-torus with two eigenvalues in the unit circle is stably Bernoulli among symplectic maps. Indeed, any nearby symplectic map has no zero Lyap...

C-Generic Symplectic Diffeomorphisms: Partial Hyperbolicity and Lyapunov Exponents

It is proven that for a C-generic symplectic diffeomorphism f of any closed manifold, the Oseledets splitting along almost every orbit is either trivial or partially hyperbolic. In addition, if f is not Anosov then all the exponents in the center bundle vanish. This establishes in full a result announced by Mañé in the ICM 1983. The main technical novelty is a probabilistic method for the const...

Removing zero Lyapunov exponents in volume-preserving flows

Baraviera and Bonatti in [1] proved that it is possible to perturb, in the Ctopology, a volume-preserving and partial hyperbolic diffeomorphism in order to obtain a non-zero sum of all the Lyapunov exponents in the central direction. In this article we obtain the analogous result for volume-preserving flows. MSC 2000: primary 37D30, 37D25; secondary 37A99. keywords: Dominated splitting; volume-...
